This book is part of a series, but it's not necessary to read them in order. (Although I do recommend it!)
Marcus Gray, the Marquess of Haversham, has some enemies from his past. While he has been in love with Caroline, Viscountess Staveley, for years, they were unable to be together as she was married to someone else. Now widowed with three children, Caroline holds tight to her dislike of Marc because she believed he caused her husband's death. Because Caroline's husband and Marc used to both work at the Home Office, he knows secrets that she is unaware of. When her life is in danger, Marc must protect her, even though she hates him!
This book had all the things I love - intrigue, passion and romance! Ms. Stone does a fantastic job of bringing these characters' love for each other to light. I highly recommend this book. I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
